Description
Welcome to the Duke of Cornwall, Plymouth's original character hotel, a treasure in the heart of Devon's city-by-the sea.
Tower and turret, ballroom, oak panels, elaborate ceiling
roses, sea views and cityscape. We have 72 rooms and suites, each with
a unique view.
Built during the Golden Age of steam, the Duke of Cornwall was
Plymouth's first luxury hotel and provides first class accommodation
today.
With peerless conference facilities and licensed to celebrate
weddings and civil partnerships in our stunning function rooms, the
Duke of Cornwall is minutes from national and international rail, air
and sea connections.
It's the perfect embarkation point for a voyage into England's
beautiful South West, not forgetting Plymouth's excellent Theatre Royal
just around the corner and for dinner, we have a 2 RAC Blue Ribbons and
AA Rosette award winning Restaurant.
Whatever the occasion for your visit, your booking guarantees our unreserved welcome. Long before the boutique hotel was invented,
The Duke of Cornwall was famous for its individuality, attention to
detail and spacious accommodation. Built by "Honest John" Pethick in 1863, the privately
owned hotel was saved from demolition in the 1970's following a
campaign led by the late Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman.
We
are delighted to provide whatever it takes to assure your convenience
and comfort. The Duke of Cornwall's classical-gothic 19th Century
architecture is just part of our heritage, which also includes an
adherence to the traditional ideal of courteous and efficient service.
We are proud of our excellent, focused and intuitive staff, who provide
an unparalleled commitment to our guests. We believe that attention to
detail never goes out of vogue.
Still a privately owned
hotel, Jon Morcomm and Walter Combstock have been the Duke of
Cornwall's proprietors for several years and pride themselves on not
only a simply excellent hotel but also as award winning employers.
