This 17th century, luxury,
boutique hotel is the only 4-star hotel in the centre of Lancaster, and
is superbly situated in the heart of the city centre.
The hotel
was originally built in the 17th century and is the oldest bar/hotel
still operating in Lancaster. With luxurious rooms and comfortable
furnishings, the hotel is an ideal base for an upmarket stay in the
city.
An à la carte breakfast is included in the price, and is
a tasty start to the day. The hotel is situated in the very centre of
Lancaster, within yards of the castle and all the city's other
attractions. St Martin’s College (University of Cumbria) and Lancaster
University are both an easy commute from the hotel. The hotel regularly
welcomes many visiting academics from both institutes.
The
building fell into decline in the 20th century and when C2 Original
Inns bought the building in 2003 it was a simple bed and breakfast with
a small, quiet bar downstairs. Since 2003, the building has been
rebuilt from the foundations up, and now offers a stylish bar/meeting
area on the ground floor, with 15 beautifully designed en suite rooms
above.
The Sun Hotel is a listed building situated in the
Lancaster Castle Conservation Area and as such we had to develop the
building in conjunction with the Council's Conservation Department. As
a result we do not have a lift and guests need to be aware that to
reach the first and second floors they will need to use the good old
fashioned stairs.
